Advanced Placement® Exams are formulated as a means of assessing college readiness. A score of 3 points or higher indicates that a student is capable of successfully completing introductory-level college coursework and students who earn these scores are granted placement and/or credit at about 90 percent of four-year universities in the U.S.
While AP® Exam scores are by no means the focus of our curriculum, we believe in raised academic expectations and rigorous college preparation for all students. To that end, AP Exam results are used as a means of assessing our success in helping students achieve their academic goals.
The BASIS.ed academic program involves students taking a minimum of eight AP courses and at least six AP Exams during their high school tenure, with these exams counting as final exams for the course, but many BASIS.ed graduates take as many as 20 AP Exams.
Most American schools allow only top-performing students to take AP courses and AP Exams beginning in 10th or 11th grade, but BASIS.ed-managed schools require ALL students to participate in AP courses and testing beginning in 9th grade (and students can elect to take AP Exams even before entering high school). Despite being younger and in lower grade levels, BASIS.ed students perform exceedingly well on AP Exams when compared to their peers across the country.
A score of 3, 4, or 5 (on a scale of 1 to 5) merits a "pass" in the AP examination system. Our AP Passing Points calculation is the sum of the value of each passing score, measured across all BASIS.ed students taking AP Exams. The BASIS.ed academic program continues to evolve and offers a wide range of students the opportunity to take AP courses and exams, beginning in 8th grade and spanning through their senior year. Our Advanced Placement success is apparent in the impressive growth of our AP Passing Points.
